Having a hard time? You’re not the only one. A lot of us are hitting a pandemic wall right now. The last few months have been especially hard for young and emerging creatives who are trying to make it in the industry. To offer them (and anyone else who needs it) a little visual relief, the brilliant David Moloney has launched a series of animated posters quoting 21 pieces of advice from some of our favourite designers.

Called MakingIt21, the project features uplifting messages from the likes of Stefan Sagmeister, Craig Oldham, Emma Barratt, Morag Myerscough and James Hurst. Some of them are meant help you survive the day ahead (“Don’t panic, dig deep, don’t lose sight of your goals”), while others take the long view, and point the way towards building a meaningful career (“Use design to design change”). All 21 posters are bold, typographic, and loaded with a sense of fun.

Moloney explains: “The purpose of MakingIt21 is to spread some optimism off the back of a terrible year.” Besides offering words of wisdom, the series also hopes to serve as a reminder that the design community can be a supportive space, with “99% of creative people willing to help and offer advice where they can.”

Want to see more? MakingIt21 currently lives online, but may one day make it in print as a series of postcards or zines. Learn more on Instagram.
