“Chinampa Veneta envisions architecture as a living system that reconnects the natural, the artificial, and the collective.”
Chinampa Veneta is a collective of designers, architects, landscapers, and farmers from Mexico City. They came together to develop Chinampa Veneta, the Mexican Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, 2025: Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.
The collective considers the chinampa system a living form of design, interweaving landscape, technique, and community, encompassing all elements of the path toward a regenerative future. Their project seeks to build a bridge between cultures and pasts, between the Mexican milpa and the Italian vite maritata, between Xochimilco and Venice, a dialogue between two lakeside cities and the last trenches of their harvest, their histories, and their fragilities.
” By integrating ancestral knowledge with contemporary challenges, it invites us to co-design with the land, the water, and the communities: shifting from static objects to regenerative processes that honor life cycles and promote new forms of shared ecological futures.”
