After Tokyo, Berlin and Brussels the Internet Yami-Ichi / Black Market is coming to Amsterdam on 9 & 10 May in Flemish Arts Centre De Brakke Grond. Artists, designers, innovative thinkers and outsiders will be selling concepts and concrete products plucked from, played on or responding to the online world. MOTI, Museum of the Image, will be present to promote the Crypto Design Challenge.
The Internet Yami-Ichi is a flea market for ‘browsing’ face-to-face. Next to Internet jewelry, glitch scarves, ‘real backups’, designer biometric data and other digital delicacies, the visitor will find all the desired information on MOTI’s Crypto Design Challenge.
Crypto Design Challenge
The Crypto Design Challenge aims to deploy design as a tool to make the complex world of data intelligible for people that don’t know much about computers. In doing so the organisers hope to encourage young designers and image makers to engage more deeply with the matter.
The amount of digitally stored information is growing exponentially. Government services and companies are more than interested in accessing and using this Big Data for many different purposes. And we’ve no idea what the consequences will be.
Joining the arts and technology
The Crypto Design Challenge aims to bridge the worlds of the arts and technology. Visual designers need to be involved in developing technology at an early stage. The Crypto Design Challenge is a call directed at educational institutions, technology firms and software developers, but also at design agencies and at art and design education programmes in the Netherlands and Belgium. The goal is to achieve a better balance between creativity and technology in the development process.
To enter the challenge contestants can send in their ideas in several categories until 1 August 2015. The best proposals will be presented at the Crypto Design Day in Brussels. A selection of the projects will be displayed in September 2015 at the Crypto Design exhibition at MOTI, Museum of the Image in Breda. Also, the Crypto Design Manifest will be published in autumn of this year, which might also feature your idea.
