Three activation sessions in the WDCD Live Amsterdam programme focus on the important role of the designer in working towards a sustainable, circular economy. Our valued partner, the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), organizes these BNO Circle Sessions.

CIRCO is a practical design process based on the TU Delft ‘Products that Last’ framework, developed by WDCD keynote speaker Conny Bakker et al. CIRCO has already trained over 150 design professionals and supported over 100 companies in the past two years. The workshop is introduced by Ellen Schindler of KOSSMANN.DEJONG (exhibition architects) who participated in CIRCO and is now preparing the museum industry for circular concepts.

Hidden impact

The second session, ‘Check your hidden impact’ is part of the afternoon sessions on Day 1. In it designer Babette Porcelijn, author of the book De verborgen impact (The Hidden Impact), will discuss the unnoticed impact consumers have on the environment by the things they use, buy and do on a daily basis. Porcelijn will help attending designers to measure the hidden impact of both their work and their private life with the aim to reduce the negative effects for the environment as effectively as possible. A workshop for those who want to make an effective transition towards ‘eco neutrality’.

Circular Design Guide

The third of the here BNO Circle Sessions, in the morning of Day 2, introduces you to the Circular Design Guide, a platform with extensive information on circular design methods. The session gives you a chance to meet the people behind the platform, including Emma Fromberg of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and Arianne Orilliac of IDEO (and also co-founder of OMG Florence!, jewellery designer in the making, dancer, and world traveller!)

This interactive workshop is for designers intrigued by design methods & frameworks and with a strong conceptual background. Together with the hosts they will explore the preferred mechanisms to increase the adoption of the Circular Design Guide.
