Virginijus Sinkevičius is the Commissioner for Environment, ensuring the environment, oceans and fisheries remain at the core of the European Green Deal.

The European Union, through its Delegation in Mexico has built an alliance with What Design Can Do to organise jointlythe WDCDMX GNP 2021 Festival. This collaboration includes content definition, experiences’ sharing and the participation of prominent European experts, thanks also to the active collaboration of six Member States of the European Union: Austria, Belgium, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden.

One of the objectives of WDCD is to raise awareness among companies, governments and the general public on how design goes beyond creating a beautiful object, having the power to transform society. In this second edition, the circular economy will be one of the main topics the Festival will tackle.

The circular economy is a trend, but it is not only a trend for the European Union, rather a key goal for the next decade during which we have to mobilize all our efforts to make the change possible.

Thanks to the alliance between the European Union and WDCD, we have prepared a very comprehensive and ambitious program that reflects the European Union’s commitment on circular economy, as well as the creativity, the richness and the diversity of the contributions of our Member States.

The timing of the 2021 WDCD GNP festival could not be more auspicious, with COP26 about to kick off. Without doubts, it will be an opportunity to present to a diverse Mexican audience the European Union’s commitment for a cleaner, greener and healthier world.

I encourage you to be part of this event hand in hand with brilliant creators, companies with significant experiences and new proposals, rich exchanges on a better future, but also strong real commitments, both on the European and Mexican side.
