Hagamos Composta offers an appealing alternative for local families and businesses who want to handle their waste more responsibly but do not have the knowledge, tools, or space to do so. Through a weekly pick-up service, organic waste is collected using colourful, reusable buckets. It is then composted, and returned to the community (and the earth) as a nutrient-rich fertilizer. By keeping education and social development at the core of everything they do, Hagamos Composta has transformed a relatively simple idea into a lively movement. Today, more than 3000 families have taken part in Mexico and Honduras and more than 800 tonnes of organic waste have been collected.

WINNER OF THE NO WASTE CHALLENGE

Hagamos Composta is one of the winners of What Design Can Do’s No Waste Challenge, which was launched earlier this year together with IKEA Foundation, to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time: waste.
