TRANSPORTATION

Here’s a rundown of the many ways to get to the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (ITA):

  • Bicycle — There’s plenty of bicycle parking nearby the theater. In addition, there is an underground bike parking garage on het Leidseplein under the Kleine Gartmanplantsoen, as well as the bicycle boat on de Lijnbaansgracht (next to de Melkweg). Just make sure to bring a good lock!
  • Public transport — ITA can be found at the stop Leidseplein, which can be reached via tram 2, 11 and 12 if you’re coming from Amsterdam Centraal, tram 5 from Station Zuid, tram 19 from Station Sloterdijk, tram 1 from Muiderpoortstation. Tram 7 also stops on the Leidseplein, as well as bus routes 282, 283, 284, 288. If you fancy a short stroll to the event then it is also possible to take Metro 52 (North-South route) with an approx. 10-minute walk from the Vijzelgracht stop.
  • Car — Although Leidseplein itself is car-free, you can park your car at a P + R location on the outskirts of the city. Free parking is available for Amsterdam residents with a National Parking Exemption (LPO) or a European disabled parking card (EGP). A day pass is available for visitors to the city. This can be collected at Cition Parking Management.

WHEELCHAIRS & MOBILITY SCOOTERS

ITA is completely accessible using a wheelchair, while some areas are easier to reach than others, there is an elevator to all areas and accessible toilets too. Please contact info(at)whatdesigncando.com in advance to reserve special wheelchair spaces for users and their guests.

Mobility scooters are not allowed in ITA for safety reasons. However, ITA does provide a loan wheelchair to use for transport within its building, please contact info(at)whatdesigncando.com in advance to request this loan wheelchair.

It is good to know that there is a distance to be covered on foot from the elevator to the Rabozaal, so please feel free to also use a loan wheelchair if it makes it easier for you. If you would like assistance from a What Design Can Do team member, please contact us using the information at the bottom of this page.

SERVICE ANIMALS

Trained guide dogs and (SOHO) assistance dogs are always welcomed.

HEARING ENHANCEMENT

Hearing enhancement is available for all participants at no cost. You can go to the host desk at the entrance for a device (if you are wearing a hearing aid) or an earpiece (if you do not have a hearing aid), however please keep in mind these are only available for the Rabozaal and not the foyers.

COVID SAFETY

We are following all recommended guidelines of RIVM throughout the festival.
