PresentED BY:

This political and collective space invites participants to share in the process of nixtamalization and tortilla-making, recognizing the immense labor behind one of the most meaningful foods of our culture. Far from romanticizing or folklorizing, the workshop seeks to make visible and dignify the work of campesina women, who daily put their bodies to work in the fields and the kitchen. Through practice, a conversation will unfold around the importance of cultivating and defending native maize, and the deep bond between food, territory, and social justice. Adriana David will contribute questions about the relevance of heirloom seeds, the maize native to the Valley of Mexico, and the challenges faced by Milpa Alta’s conservation lands under real estate pressure.
As part of this experience, she will share seeds of maize, squash, and beans, while inviting participants to reflect on their own territories through the memory of food memory that roots us in our landscapes and local cultures. A gathering to learn, build community, and reflect collectively on the political power embedded in everyday knowledge and practices.
