Redesign Belonging Showcase
Friday 6 June | 17:00 – 18:00 | Pakhuis de Zwijger

How can design foster belonging?

Belonging isn’t just about fitting in—it’s about being seen, heard, and valued. In this showcase, five winning initiatives from the Redesign Belonging challenge present bold, imaginative ideas for building a sense of home, especially for migrant women navigating new environments.

From storytelling to shared meals, from craft to employment platforms—these projects explore how small, human-centred interventions can make a big impact. Join us to hear from the designers themselves, share your own insights, and reflect together with an expert panel on what it means to truly belong.

The Redesign Belonging challenge was developed in collaboration with Laurea University, the Euro-Arab Foundation, and Educational Centre Visio, and co-funded by the European Union’s Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV).

Featuring:

  • You Too Are a Wanderer – multimedia storytelling and mythology (Carla Sanfratello Marco, NL)
  • Home? Belonging Shortstories – design tools for migrant youth (Sarah Binkowski, IT)
  • Homelore – embroidery workshops as safe space and storytelling tool (Riddhi Varma, PT)
  • Winadill Project – platform for connecting skilled immigrant women with flexible work (Tamara Mezina, FI)
  • Unwritten Recipes – a zine capturing migration through food and emotion (Meriç Çukurova, NL)

This session is part of the afternoon programme of WDCD Live on 6 June at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam. To attend, you’ll need a passe-partout ticket for the full festival day.
