Well known for its recycled bags made from used truck tarpulins, the Swiss Freitag company now enters the world of fashion. In search of sustainable workwear for their employees, the Freitag-brothers started a five-year quest that eventually resulted in durable, 100% compostable and sustainably produced textiles, called F-ABRIC. T-shirts, pants and dresses made of these textiles now enter the shops in Europe.
Five years ago Markus and Daniel Freitag started their search for a tough, sustainably produced and compostable material made entirely in Europe. They found producers of flax (linen), hemp and Modal (beechwood bast fibers), all of which are resources that are grown on European soil and do not harm it or require excessive amounts of water to grow. With European producers including a weaving mill in Italy and a fashion factory in Poland they developed workwear from different textiles that are strong enough for factory working conditions and after use are completely biodegradable.
As can be expected from the Freitag-brothers the F-ABRIC workwear looks good too. In all it seems worth the price of 240 Swiss Francs (200 euros) for a pair of pants. Already available from shops in the German-speaking countries, Paris and Tokyo, and soon in Italy too.
