Projects that tell stories, is the best description of the work of Mexican product designer Joel Escalona. As one of the most prolific and multidisciplinary designers of his generation, Escalona has worked on a set of projects ranging from product design, furniture and jewellery, to consulting, creative direction and collectible design pieces for galleries.
His work translates to much more than just an extensive portfolio: it’s the materialization of understanding and mastering the materials, processes and the culture that surrounds him, resulting in transdisciplinary projects with a relevant discourse, a reflection of himself.
Working with clients in Mexico, the United States, Europe and Asia, has provided Escalona with a global vision that permeates each of the projects involving him. His work has been exhibited in Milan, New York, Paris, Switzerland, and Mexico City. Wallpaper magazine described him as ‘one of the new wave of young designers to watch for in the world’.
In addition to his design studio, Joel Escalona is a founding member of Cooperativa Panorámica, a group of Mexican designers who explore new design territories, and creative director of the contemporary furniture brand NONO. Furthermore, he teaches at CENTRO and at ITESM, the most recognized private universities in design in Mexico City.
