The WDCD Refugee Challenge was launched in 2016 and officially closed with a grand finale on 7 March, 2017 in Amsterdam. On this day, the 5 challenge finalists gathered to present their developed concepts and business cases for the final time. 

Also in attendance were a panel of experts who responded to the pitch presentations and two inspiring keynote speakers who gave their vision on humanitarian innovation: Goof van Dormolen, operations manager, the Dutch Council for Refugees and Willemijn Verloop, founder of Social Enterprise.nl, co-founder of Social Impact Ventures.
