DAY 1 / HOME / WITH MARCUS ENGMAN & MATHIAS WORBIN

3: The Principles of Democratic Design

Democratic Design is the result of IKEA’s vision: to create a better everyday life for the many. This requires deep insight in the wishes and needs of people, reason why IKEA started to do research into living situations and daily life routines of people around the world. The results help IKEA to design new multi-functional, user-friendly, and pleasant furnishing solutions. In this master class IKEA’s Mathias Worbin and Marcus Engman will introduce you to the principles of Democratic Design and show you how these can be linked to sustainability goals too.

Moderator: Beatrijs Voorneman, Reframing Studio.

Theme: Home
Cutting down on household emissions and energy is a responsibility for all of us: the people who own, rent, build and design houses. Lighting, heating, cooking, washing …all of these activities offer potentialities for serious emission reductions. The question here is how we can design residential facilities, household products and services that persuade people to make the behavioural switch?
