One month to go before we close the open call for the WDCD Climate Action Challenge on 24 September 2017. Already some seventy projects have been entered (some of which aren’t visible on the platform in this stage). Make sure that you enter yours in time to avoid that you can’t get through on the last day.
The projects already entered show a great variety and range from a proposal to improve the branding of the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP) to a smart device that provides Filipino farmers with affordable and reliable weather forecasts. Electric Spokes is a student project by Hojung Kim from the USA focused on providing off-grid communities with easy to assemble wind turbines from recycled materials. A start-up from Kenya, Jabez Self Help Group, works on value addition and market development for organic agricultural commodities, to enhance the lives of children, women and elderly.
Enter now, adjust later
We expect a lot more to come, as already 500 people have registered as users on the platform. From our experience with the WDCD Refugee Challenge, we understand that many people postpone entering their projects till the last day – no wonder, that’s how we all work. Last year, this resulted in a temporary blockage of the platform on the day of the deadline.
So here is our advice: enter your project well in advance and adjust and add as much as you like until 24 September. In the meantime, you can also profit from comments that other users might give you. In the Refugee Challenge we’ve seen a lot of activity between users, helping each other to get the best out of their ideas. Don’t waste that opportunity.
WDCD Climate Action Challenge
The WDCD Climate Action Challenge is a global design competition calling on the creative community to submit bold, innovative solutions to combat the impacts of climate change. Together with its main partners, IKEA Foundation and Autodesk Foundation, invite designers, creative thinkers and imaginative trouble-shooters from all countries and disciplines to take part!

The winners, selected and evaluated by an international jury, share an award package worth €900.000 which includes a production budget and a tailor-made acceleration programme aimed at making the winning ideas, prototypes or start-ups investment ready.
